There is a quiet and incalculable crisis, a mass existential malcontent, a hopelessness that is palpable. This disaster has been amplified by the avalanche of despair bought about Brexit, and Trump, and with living and working conditions being unacceptable, nonviable and in no way sustainable for many people there is plenty of difficulty across the board, and there is for once, no class discrimination.
We are fond of collective denial; our typical standpoint regarding status quo. I am not however fine with this…we are experiencing a staggering mental health epidemic. I’ve never known more of my friends to be medicated, for essentially having normative human-condition experiences. Yet, it seems more conditional, than individual perhaps. My greatest concern is for our children, our youth, and we must take action to safe-guard their welfare.
I think it essential that we bring into our educational systems, a new subject, ‘Emotional Literacy’. In my mind it’s a crime against humanity, the widespread medicating of our children, often making them into career patients, instead we simply must teach them self-sufficiency, emotional resilience and the cultivation of robust strategy for consistent wellbeing.
We’d do well to nurture the wellbeing of future generations, so they develop into healthful, productive and well-rounded individuals; this would positively impact, by relieving health services.
We must assess cultural drivers, enact social reform and systemic change in order to recovery this dire, dystopian reality… What’s needed is a truly radical sanity to counter it.
