I am content to be an instrument, and am led by an integrity of purpose. I offer sophisticated insight and my intention as an Existential Coach to Creative Men is to encourage more artful being and deliver exponential value. An attitude of willingness, an inclination for possibility and total honesty is required. Typically my clients are cultural creatives: progressive, curious, intellectual (emotionally evolved, yet academic), they engage with a collaborative mind-set, are guided by a spirit of contribution and a desire for potency in living. These individuals universally exist on the creative plain, non-competitive therefore.
Primarily I consider myself a visionary humanist, and my coaching is an expression of a greater cause for humanity; leading others to self-healing and enlightened ways of being, which in turn impacts global recovery for mankind and the natural world. I am concerned with the limitless potential of the individual, related to the whole.
My work reflects an endless fascination with the human condition, and more specifically, with relativity; the relatedness of subject to object, self to other, self to environment, and of the micro to the macro. Of prime consideration, is the way in which we relate to ourselves and respond to the conditions of our lives. Even a nuanced shift in appreciation here, can bring about new paradigms, sublime realities even.
Coaching is a tool that helps to distil our understanding of, and contextualise our experience of, living and ways of being in this world. It is how we can take command. In practise it feels immersive and seeks to elicit a created life-pathway not a (formerly) passive one. Existentialism considers the whole, seeing the individual as protagonist, who is regarded as multi-dimensional, as complex. This translates as coaching in practise being holistic.
Liberal Arts are to education, what existential coaching is to Life; it is a comprehensive means to explore, expand and refine one’s self, informing an ideal outer reality, the two being inextricably linked. Existential coaching offers answers to substantial questions and counters well any life-impasse encountered. Given it concerns itself with fundamental themes (choice|agency|freedom|truth) and perspectives, it has great scope, accommodating and validating the entire breadth of human experience from normative to borderland. It allows therefore a direct challenge to the clinical perspective of seeking to pathologise the human condition, instead we should champion and embrace it full spectrum!
Attending the self, should be both a primary and maintenance practise, for all other successes flow from a sense of inner balance, authenticity, autonomy and entirety.
My approach to coaching is one of philosophical enquiry, and here we find, in exploration, light relief from the hyper-order of conventional consensus reality. Existential coaching can be conceptual (as with high arts) suiting well the artistic temperament, meeting well the needs and nature of the creative mind. Its broad range invites realisation and revelation, and being plump with such, can feel transcendental; it is an exciting process full of exchanges of ideas and insights, a sense of newness and an amplification of energy. Progress can feel pacey and process profound.
For Me, the prime peak experience is in the very ‘meeting of minds’. The interplay of minds and their interactions is pure delight, being ripe with learnings, and each being novel.
Though every querent comes to me with an individual motive, underlying themes are often universal. Coaching is a means of mapping our inner matrix, the unchartered self, which typically activates personal responsibility, individuation, healing and self-mastery.
Beyond this there comes a drive to be fully expressed, to harness one’s innate capacities, which translates to more conscious, authentic and meaningful output. There is a feeling of renewal, and any self-deceit has been overcome.
Once the inner work is done, a feeling of integration and entirety prevails. This, layered with new strategy for adept living, is all that’s required to come to thrive. Note that one is both the determinate in and of his life.
Some examples of client directives might be: to find purpose and comfort in the present, to realise sustained wellbeing, the seeking of personal and universal truths, identifying the origin of sufferings, a change in attitude, outlook or perception, developing self-awareness, to adapt ego concept, discerning raison d’être, seeking to feel more vital, the dissolution of historical narratives, letting go of personal fiction, recovering a sense of wonder, developing emotional literacy and intelligence, surrendering control, choosing trust and faith over fear, to moderate and mitigate mood, productivity and impulse regulation, to expand window of tolerance, the cultivation of inner peace or better habits, to reveal and honour the essential, true self, to move from a state of introspection, becoming more outward-looking.
Liquid modernity requires of us to have a sense of the concrete, so we are not disrupted by the pace of ever-fluxing life conditions. To ‘know thyself’ is the simple and best answer. Needless to say, I cannot overstate the benefits; Existential coaching is the ideal route to finding yourself found.
