Some of my most brilliant ideas are realised when drifting. A certain quality of such activity, allows for all manner of topical channellings; sometimes creative, at times divine, yet always generative. My favourite are seaside wanderings, sound-tracked by Wagner. My favourite aspect, is the distinct lack ofexternal demand on (or of) Me.
Musing surely is the antidote to mediocrity (an unbearable state for any artist, as is stagnation). Process and creativity require dynamism, and immersion. Whereas fantasy is escapist, dreaming and deliberation are constructive and realise output.
The difficulty is that musings are, though qualitative, completely immeasurable in themselves, though the product of such activity typically result in a definitive outcome. However, I assert that they are typically pleasurable in process, and much realisation and revelation can be arrived at during active phases. To discount the value of such musing is to deny possibility in my mind, which is unacceptable, unimaginative and lacking in vision.
Never has there been more a time when independent thought should be championed to counter the nonsense of the ruling class, and unite ideas. We see the arts and humanities diminishing much, which is naturally tragic and should be challenged; they do not serve a system intent on you serving it. It is not my idea of a good existence, to be subordinate, especially regarding thought.
Drifting in some ways seems passive, though it is active in that it is allowing, inviting, creating a space and some quiet to just think or not think. It is an act of presence, of present contemplation, of causality.
Drifting is useful. It is certainly a useful state for creativity. It is a contradiction to most conservatism/conventionalism, (and therefore a delight). I see thinking as working…but it is like no other modality of work. It invites a most productive and pleasurable reality. And to trivialise the muse, or discount such activity is to deny extraordinary potentials.
In the sacred space created by musing, we invite beauty to filter in readily, beauty and truths; especially when we’re clear of the incessant bombardment of a toxic culture. This spaciousness and imagining is not possible with the counter-state, one of general busy-ness. We should certainly encourage it in our children, for emotional self-sufficiency comes from both a command of the inner and outer realms. For one’s psyche to be at liberty is a true wonder. To be able to think freely, is a both a privilege and a choice, of course; free will exists, but we simply must make choices.
I have had both the fortune and wisdom to create a reality that honours my need for this spacial reality, an unconventional, yet compelling alternative to the tedium of regular work, much to the dismay of more conventional-types about me… For me, anything that brings joy, and enables value-creating output, and an amplification of my capacities is essential to my wellness and my ability to exist comfortably. Without dedicated musings, I am lost! An ideal partner to musing is the vantage of a broad-horizon view.
Consensus reality is somewhat limited and it can be a challenge for creative individuals to thrive in such a fixed and constructed context. Expansions of mind are enhanced through our connection to all that’s elemental. Artistry is pronounced as we encounter ourselves honesty and substantially and interact with our environment… there is a duality of self and environment naturally.
To think independently and be autonomous is the ultimate liberty. To be able to learn along chosen pathways, enacting free will, realises great realisations and peak experience for the protagonist. This may be viewed as self-indulgent, and it may be, but without innovation (which is both private and collaborative) we do not go on to deliver great contributions of teachings and ingenuity. All brilliant invention is borne of the artist, the innovator, the creator being in his element and engaging his genius. Being in one’s element, in a state of flow, is of critical and indisputable importance.
The great consequence of present musing is the realisation of the visionary, from not drifting idly, but doing so quite intentionally.
